Google rolls out AI battery usage summaries for Pixel phones
Google has begun rolling out a new AI-driven feature called ‘Battery Usage Summaries’ to its Pixel smartphone lineup. Delivered via an AI Core update, the feature aims to simplify battery management by replacing complex percentage charts with written text summaries. The system continuously monitors background activity and user behavior to identify power-hungry apps and compares current consumption against historical averages.
If the device detects unusually high energy usage, it provides a summary at the top of the battery settings page, alerting the user to the cause. For example, the system can flag if a specific time of day saw higher consumption than usual and pinpoint responsible applications, such as WhatsApp or various Google services.
The rollout has faced some inconsistencies. While the feature has appeared on Pixel 11 Pro XL and Pixel 11 Pro Fold models, owners of the Pixel 10 and 10a have reported that the feature has not yet arrived despite having the necessary updates installed. Users who prefer not to use the automated summaries can manually disable the feature through the battery settings menu.
