Google rolls out June 2026 Spam Update affecting search rankings
Google launched a global Spam Update on June 24, 2026, completing the rollout by June 26. The update enhances the company's SpamBrain detection system and targets websites that use manipulative tactics violating Google's spam policies. Sites that follow Google's guidelines should see little impact, while those relying on spammy practices may experience ranking declines or removal from search results.
The June 2026 Spam Update was highlighted in the July 2026 Google Webmaster Report, which also covered other ranking fluctuations, new AI performance reports in Search Console, and changes to documentation on third‑party SEO tools. Google’s Head of Search, Liz Reid, emphasized the need for high‑quality content, and the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) ordered the company to disclose details about its ranking mechanisms. Additional Search Console improvements included expanded AI performance metrics, bug fixes to the link report, and new interface features such as Search Profiles and platform property tooltips.
