Google, Samsung and Apple outline smartphone update schedules

Android manufacturers provide varying lengths of software support. Google promises up to seven years of security updates for Pixel 10 series devices, with version upgrades extending to Android 23. Samsung offers up to seven years of security patches for its flagship Galaxy S and Fold lines, while lower‑priced Galaxy A models receive four to six years. Apple typically supplies five to seven years of iOS updates, with the iPhone 11 series likely receiving its final major version soon.

Many older models are approaching the end of their support windows, leaving them vulnerable to security risks and without new features. Consumers are advised to consider remaining update life when buying a device, especially for phones that will receive only one more year of patches.
