Google Schema.org structured data role in search results
Schema.org structured data is not a direct ranking factor for Google, despite common misconceptions among SEO specialists. According to official documentation, implementing this markup does not automatically increase a page's position or traffic; instead, it determines eligibility for rich results, such as star ratings, prices, or images.
While structured data does not boost relevance scores, it can improve click-through rates (CTR) by making search listings more visually prominent. For FAQ schema specifically, the content must be visible to users on the rendered HTML page. If the questions and answers exist only in the JSON-LD code and not in the visible text, Google may treat the markup as misleading.
JSON-LD is the recommended format for implementation. To avoid common deployment failures, developers should ensure that FAQ schema is not used for promotional purposes and that the markup accurately reflects the page's actual content.
