Google Sheets introduces native box plot charts
Google Sheets has launched native support for box plot charts, eliminating the previous requirement for auxiliary formulas to visualize data distributions. The feature automatically calculates key metrics, including quartiles, medians, means, minimum and maximum values, and outliers.
Users can customize these visualizations by adjusting quartile calculation methods and toggling the visibility of markers, mean references, and specific data points. This update significantly improves interoperability with Microsoft Excel; box plots, underlying data, and visual styles are now preserved when importing Excel files into Google Sheets, and vice versa.
The rollout is global and gradual, affecting both Google Workspace and personal account users. The feature is expected to reach all users within 15 days, with scheduled deployments for certain domains beginning around November 6.
