Google testing map view for AI-powered Ask Photos search

Google is developing a new map view for its AI-powered Ask Photos search feature within the Google Photos app. An APK teardown of an unreleased version of the app reveals that instead of displaying search results for specific locations as a standard grid of thumbnails, the new interface will plot photos directly onto a map.

Users will be able to see photos organized into clusters on a map, with numbers indicating how many images are located in a specific area. The interface will allow for zooming and interacting with these clusters to view more details. While Google Photos currently offers a heatmap view within its Collections section, this new integration aims to bring visual mapping directly into the AI-driven Ask Photos search experience.

As the feature was discovered in a private testing build, its final design and official release date remain unconfirmed. It is also unclear if the feature will remain available for users who choose to disable the Ask Photos AI search functionality.
