Google tests AI-generated summary snippets in AI Overviews

Google is testing or rolling out AI-generated summary snippets within its AI Overviews citation cards. These snippets appear in the cards located to the right or bottom of AI Overviews in Google Search.

To optimize for AI Overviews, experts suggest focusing on strong SEO, crawlability, and providing original, first-hand data or expertise that generic summaries cannot replicate. Google has stated that no special markup or secret files are required for these features; instead, pages must be indexed and eligible for snippets.

Additionally, Google confirmed that its Image Search and Discover services do not currently support the JPEG XL image format. Other recent updates include the launch of the Google Universal Cart in the US and testing of revamped performance reports for Google Business Profiles.
