Google tests color-matched My Pixel app icons for older devices

Google is working to expand the color-matched icon feature for its My Pixel app to older smartphone models. This feature, which allows the app icon to reflect the specific physical color of the device, was initially introduced with the Pixel 11 series.

Analysis of version 8.9.1 of the My Pixel application reveals code indicating that the Pixel 9 series may soon receive this customization. The update would allow the icon to match hardware finishes such as Obsidian, Hazel, and Rose Quartz.

However, the rollout appears to be incomplete. The Pixel 9a and Pixel 9 Pro Fold are currently absent from the code, and assets for the Pixel 10 series have not yet appeared. For devices that do not support hardware-based color matching, Google is also testing a refreshed default icon featuring a lighter blue color with a white Google logo.
