Google Discover tests AI-generated summaries via ‘Dive deeper’ feature

Google is testing a new feature within its Google Discover news feed called ‘Dive deeper’ (or ‘Aprofunde-se’ in Portuguese). Announced by Google Search Product Vice President Robby Stein, the tool uses artificial intelligence to generate comprehensive summaries of topics directly within the feed.

When a user selects the option, the AI provides a synthesized overview of the subject, accompanied by links to related stories, community reactions, and original reporting. The experiment is currently being tested with video content to determine the most effective design and functionality.

This development has raised concerns regarding ‘zero-click’ searches, where users consume information without ever visiting the original publisher's website. This shift could impact the organic traffic and economic sustainability of news portals, blogs, and content creators who rely on clicks from search feeds.
