Google tests new Android app lock and foldable multitasking features

Google is testing new features in the Android Canary 2608 build aimed at enhancing security and multitasking.

A native app lock feature has been introduced, allowing users to secure specific applications using the device's existing screen lock (PIN, gesture, or password). Unlike previous iterations, users can now select multiple apps to lock simultaneously through the security settings. When an app is locked, its notification content, widgets, shortcuts, and recent app previews are hidden to ensure privacy.

For foldable devices, Google is testing a multitasking enhancement called ‘App Handle’. This feature provides a draggable element at the top of applications, enabling users to quickly transition between full-screen mode and split-screen mode. This update aims to provide a more seamless user experience across different screen configurations, similar to existing features found in proprietary foldable software.
