Google tests “Quick insert” feature for Gboard on Android

Google is testing a new “Quick insert” feature for its Gboard keyboard on Android, according to findings from a beta version (18.0.3.954559732). The tool is identified by a diamond-shaped icon containing a plus sign.

Once activated, the feature is expected to open a panel providing rapid access to six different categories of content: voice tools, emojis and stickers, clipboard history, device images, contacts, and writing tools. The contact integration appears particularly detailed, allowing users to select a specific name and then choose which specific information to insert or opt to copy all associated details at once.

While the feature aims to streamline the process of inserting media and information without switching menus, some technical observers note that the addition of another layer of tools may complicate the existing Gboard interface, which already includes direct shortcuts for many of these functions.
