Google tests 'Strongest match' labels on Search ads in the United States
Google began a limited experiment on June 24, 2026, adding “Strongest match” and “Strong match” badges to selected Search ads for a small percentage of U.S. users. The labels are applied to ads that already meet a high threshold under Google’s existing ad quality and relevance signals, which feed into the Quality Score (expected click‑through rate, ad relevance, landing‑page experience). The experiment was announced by Google Ads product liaison Ginny Marvin on X.
The badges are visual cues only; they do not change ad eligibility, placement, or cost. Google says the purpose is to help users quickly spot the most relevant sponsored results and to give advertisers with strong relevance more visibility to high‑intent audiences. The test remains confined to the United States and may be expanded or discontinued based on results.
