Google tests website opt‑out setting for AI answers in the UK

Google is piloting a new option in Search Console that lets website owners block their content from appearing in the company’s AI‑generated responses while keeping the pages visible in traditional search results. The setting, currently available to a limited set of sites in the United Kingdom, applies to AI‑summaries in Search, the KI‑Mode, and Discover. Google says the feature will not affect a site’s regular ranking.

The move comes as Google’s AI tools reach over 2.5 billion monthly users for search‑summaries and more than a billion for KI‑Mode. By providing detailed usage data, the test aims to give publishers insight into how often their pages are used in AI outputs and in which countries, helping them assess the impact on traffic and revenue.

No global rollout date has been announced, and Google has not indicated whether the setting will become a permanent feature after the trial.
