Google to adopt UCP standard for AI Mode hotel bookings
Google has announced plans to adopt the Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP) Lodging Booking draft specification to power hotel reservations within its AI Mode. This move aims to enable seamless, AI-driven accommodation bookings directly through search interfaces over the coming months.
The technical standard, released on GitHub on September 25, outlines how platforms manage the full lifecycle of a reservation, including creation, updates, completion, and cancellations. Key capabilities include real-time pricing and availability checks, guest detail management, and handling special requirements. The specification also integrates with payment extensions for deposits, split payments, and cancellation policies.
Google began rolling out hotel booking in AI Mode for English-speaking users in the United States on August 27, initially working with 10 hotel chains and travel platforms. The development is supported by the Lodging Technical Council, which includes industry entities such as Amadeus, Booking.com, Expedia, Hilton, Marriott, and Trip.com.
