Google to bring native YouTube video support to Android Auto

Google is preparing a native YouTube application for Android Auto that will allow for high-definition video playback at 60 fps while the vehicle is stationary. To ensure driver safety, the application is designed to automatically switch to audio-only mode once the vehicle begins moving.

Currently, YouTube usage within Android Auto is highly restricted, often functioning as little more than an audio stream for podcasts or video analysis. Existing media controls are limited, and certain features remain tied to YouTube Premium subscriptions. The upcoming update aims to provide a more seamless transition between watching content while parked—such as during electric vehicle charging—and listening to it while driving.
