Google to build three new subsea cables in the Americas

Google has announced plans to construct three new subsea cable systems as part of its Google Americas Connect infrastructure expansion. The project aims to enhance network redundancy, reduce latency, and increase bandwidth across the Americas, specifically connecting Chile, Panama, the Dominican Republic, Bermuda, and Florida in the United States.

The three new systems are identified as follows:

• Alisios: A hub cable connecting the Dominican Republic, Panama, and Chile. It will create a loop between Chile and Panama on the Pacific side, with a connection to the US West Coast, and link Panama to the Dominican Republic on the Caribbean side.

• Canoa: A cable connecting the Dominican Republic and Bermuda, which will integrate with Google’s existing Nuvem and Sol systems to facilitate high-speed data transmission between Latin America, the Caribbean, North America, and Europe.

• OlaLuz: A cable connecting the Dominican Republic to Florida to expand bandwidth between the Caribbean and the US East Coast.

Additionally, Google plans to add a branch to the existing Firmina cable to extend its network into the Dominican Republic. These developments are expected to strengthen Chile’s position as a regional digital hub, potentially linking it with Asia and Oceania through future projects like the Humboldt cable.
