Google to end Gmail “Send as” and related third‑party email features in 2027

Google announced that, starting in January 2027, the Gmail web interface will no longer support the “Send as” feature that lets users send messages from external addresses such as @yahoo.com, @outlook.com or custom domains. The change also removes Gmailify – the tool that applied Gmail’s spam‑filtering and inbox organization to third‑party accounts – and the POP‑on‑the‑web function that fetched mail from other servers.

The deprecation applies to personal Gmail accounts; Google Workspace aliases and Workspace‑specific “Send as” settings will continue to work. Users will still be able to receive mail from external accounts and to send mail using those addresses via the mobile Gmail apps, but the web‑based sending and account‑adding capabilities will be disabled. Google said the features are being retired because they require “disproportionate maintenance resources.” A transition period begins in the third quarter of 2026, with notifications in Gmail and a gradual phase‑out before the January 2027 deadline. The move has drawn criticism from power users who rely on a unified inbox for multiple domains.
