Google to Rebrand Pixel Magic Cue as Gemini Proactive Assistance
Google introduced the Magic Cue feature with the Pixel 10 series to surface relevant information and suggest actions during calls. Recent analysis of the beta version 229 of the Google Phone app shows that the internal code name “beacon” for Magic Cue has been replaced with “Proactive Assistance,” explicitly linking the function to the Gemini AI system. New code strings indicate that Gemini can pull data from emails, messages, screen content, notifications and selected apps to provide timely suggestions, while processing all data privately on the device. The changes suggest Google plans to rebrand Magic Cue under the Gemini umbrella, likely coinciding with the upcoming launch of the Pixel 11 later this year. Although the functionality remains the same, the rename would consolidate assistive features under the Gemini brand as part of Google’s broader Gemini Intelligence initiative.
