Google unveils Fitbit Edge lightweight fitness tracker

Google has unveiled the Fitbit Edge, a lightweight fitness tracker designed to sit between screenless trackers and full-sized smartwatches like the Pixel Watch. The device features a 1.34-inch AMOLED touchscreen, which offers a 46% larger viewing area than previous Fitbit trackers, and includes an always-on display for real-time statistics.

The tracker integrates Google Health Coach, powered by Gemini AI, to provide insights into health metrics such as heart rate, sleep scores, and insulin resistance trends. It also supports everyday features including Google Maps navigation, media controls, and notifications for calls and messages.

Despite its advanced features, the Fitbit Edge lacks an NFC chip for contactless payments, a decision Google attributes to low user engagement with that feature on previous models. Additionally, the device does not currently support respiratory quality analysis during sleep. The product is positioned as a more affordable, slim alternative to the Pixel Watch, with a reported price point of approximately $180.
