OpenAI launches ChatGPT virtual try-on and shopping features

OpenAI has launched new shopping features for ChatGPT, including a virtual try-on tool and a favorites system. The virtual try-on feature allows users to see how clothing and accessories would look on them by uploading a selfie or a full-body photograph. This capability is powered by the ChatGPT Images 2.5 model, which provides more realistic lighting, textures, and better preservation of the user's physical characteristics.

Users can utilize the tool by selecting the “Try on” button on eligible products or by uploading screenshots of items from other websites. Additionally, a “Favorites” feature has been introduced, enabling users to save products and generated try-on images into a dedicated Library for future reference. Walmart is among the retailers participating in the launch.

While the technology offers a more interactive shopping experience, OpenAI notes that the generated images are visual simulations and do not guarantee exact fit, sizing, or fabric drape. Users are advised to verify measurements and return policies before purchasing. Privacy considerations are also noted, as uploaded photos may be used for model training unless users opt out in their settings.
