Google updates Android Auto and Google Maps with new features

Google has released Android Auto version 17.8, which is currently undergoing a wave-based rollout via the Google Play Store. While the update does not feature major visual changes, it includes significant under-the-hood improvements. One key addition is the integration of a new full-screen GameSnacks experience, which serves as a precursor to future full-screen gaming capabilities on the platform. Additionally, the update appears to resolve an issue where signal bars had disappeared for some users.

In conjunction with Android Auto updates, Google Maps is introducing enhanced intersection information. Users will now receive pop-up notifications regarding upcoming traffic lights and stop signs. While traffic signal information has been available previously, these new notifications are designed to be more noticeable as drivers approach specific turns or intersections. This feature is expected to be deployed via server-side updates and may also extend to smartphone-based Google Maps usage.
