Google updates Chrome features and Gemini desktop app

Google is rolling out updates to Chrome and its Gemini AI assistant, though the implementations vary significantly across operating systems.

Chrome has introduced a vertical tab feature for Mac and Windows users, allowing for better organization and screen space management for those with many open tabs. Other recent Chrome updates include PDF annotation capabilities and Google Wallet autofill integration.

In contrast, the Gemini desktop application for Windows is currently functioning as a web app rather than a native program. This has led to high RAM consumption, with reports indicating it uses up to four times more memory than the native macOS version of the application. The Windows version maintains the same interface and behavior as the Chrome browser version, lacking specific optimizations for the Windows operating system.
