Google updates Fitbit Air with Metal Mesh band and enhanced tracking

Google has announced several updates for the Fitbit Air, including a new Metal Mesh band and enhanced software capabilities. The new band, available in Polished Silver and Champagne Gold, is designed to offer a more elegant aesthetic compared to previous fabric or polyurethane options. It is priced at approximately €79.99 or $69.99.

On the software side, Google is introducing Health Guardian tools. For Google Health Premium subscribers who monitor blood pressure and insulin resistance trends, the system will provide monthly reports to assist with lifestyle adjustments. These insights are intended to improve the utility of the AI Health Coach.

Additionally, Google is overhauling its automatic activity tracking system to make it “more intelligent, accurate, and reliable.” The update expands the number of detectable activities from 10 to over 100, encompassing disciplines such as strength training, swimming, and various team or racket sports. The system will also utilize contextual reasoning to better understand user routines.
