Google is rolling out a new feature for the Gmail mobile application on Android and iOS designed to simplify the process of using two-factor authentication (2FA) codes. The update introduces a “Copy code” button that appears directly in the inbox view beneath the email subject line when a verification message is detected.

This shortcut allows users to copy one-time passwords (OTPs) to their clipboard with a single tap, eliminating the need to open the email, locate the specific digits within the text, and manually select them. The feature is also available within the email itself, where the recognized code is displayed prominently at the top of the message for easy access.

While the feature aims to reduce friction during login procedures for banking, retail, and other services, its effectiveness depends on how the sender formats the message. Currently, the functionality is limited to mobile platforms and is not yet available for the Gmail web version. Additionally, the feature does not yet integrate directly with Gboard for automatic field filling, similar to how Google Messages handles SMS verification codes.
