Google updates Nest speakers and Gemini for Home

Google is rolling out significant updates for its Gemini-powered Home ecosystem and legacy Nest hardware. A major firmware update (version 3.79) is currently in testing via the Preview Program for older devices, including the Google Home (2016), Home Mini (2017), Nest Mini (2019), and Nest Audio (2020).

The firmware update aims to improve audio and media streaming, volume control, and overall system stability. It also addresses Wi-Fi connectivity issues and enhances the smart home control experience.

Additionally, Gemini for Home is receiving intelligence improvements, such as better comprehension of the “stop” command for media and timers, improved distinction between music and background noise, and better adherence to user preferences for temperature scales like Celsius or Fahrenheit. The Google Home app is also seeing interface updates, including redesigned controls for lights and buttons and improved management of favorites.
