Google updates Pixel Now Playing app with new features

Google is updating the Now Playing feature for Pixel devices, addressing previous functionality issues caused by its transition to a standalone app. A recent update (version 2026. 08. 27. 972147369. 0) has already introduced UI improvements, such as replacing the old floating menu with a more convenient bottom-up sliding panel in the history screen. Additionally, a new suggestion card helps users identify songs via Google Search humming if the app fails to recognize them.

Code analysis reveals that several highly requested features are in advanced development. These include the return of real-time song notifications in the notification bar—which will allow users to favorite tracks or view history—and support for secondary user profiles on a single device. Furthermore, evidence in the code suggests that Google is working on restoring music history synchronization capabilities.
