Google upgrades Fitbit and Google Health with new tracking features
Google is rolling out significant updates to its health and fitness ecosystem, specifically through version 5.11 of the Google Health app. A central component of this update is the ‘Health Guardian’ feature for Fitbit Air users with a Google Health Premium subscription. This feature allows users to monitor blood pressure and insulin resistance trends, providing monthly reports to help identify physiological changes.
Additionally, Google has enhanced its automatic activity detection system for Fitbit Air and Pixel Watch models. The updated system can now detect over 100 different activities, including strength training, swimming, and various team sports, an increase from the previous ten. Google claims this new method is twice as accurate and reduces missed detections by more than 50% by utilizing workout schedules, exercise history, and location data.
Other improvements include enhanced sleep tracking, glucose monitoring updates, and expanded wearable options such as the Fitbit Air and Pixel Watch 5.
