A study conducted by researchers from Chalmers University of Technology and Edinburgh Napier University has revealed that nearly 10 percent of parliamentary motions in Sweden over the past year contain traces of AI-assisted content. Specifically, approximately 300 motions in the most recent parliamentary year were found to have at least one paragraph generated or assisted by AI.

Researchers noted a significant increase in AI usage, rising from a negligible amount four years ago to nearly one-tenth of all motions today. To identify this content, the teams developed specialized AI detectors trained on thousands of political texts from both Sweden and the United Kingdom. The study found no significant differences in the frequency of AI use between different political parties or between the Swedish and British parliaments.

Despite the prevalence of the technology, the researchers highlighted a critical lack of transparency, noting that none of the politicians involved reported using AI in their submissions. Experts expressed concern that this lack of disclosure could become a matter of public trust and accountability for voters.
