Google's Android 17 update plagued by touch-screen problems

Google launched Android 17, one of its most extensive updates, integrating deeper AI capabilities from Google Gemini and adding a native desktop mode for Pixel devices. The rollout also included the June 2026 Pixel Feature Drop, bringing new functions to current Pixel smartphones.

Soon after release, users began reporting touch-screen issues on Pixel phones from the seventh to the tenth generation. Complaints include unresponsive touches, delayed input, and inverted vertical swipe gestures. The problems appear across the system UI and within apps, and are not limited to a single application. Google has acknowledged the reports, suggesting that the Pixel Launcher cache may be the cause and advising users to clear it, though this workaround does not reliably resolve the issue. A future launcher update distributed via the Play Store is expected to address the bug.
