GOP pushes SAVE Act amid concerns about voting restrictions

The Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act is described by Michael Waldman, CEO of the Brennan Center for Justice, as the most restrictive voting bill ever passed by Congress. Waldman wrote in National Review that the act would federalize elections in a way Republicans have long opposed. The Senate has been debating the SAVE Act since mid-March. In Iowa, the GOP aims to pass the legislation, arguing it strengthens election security. Iowa’s congressional delegation says the bill should move forward, while Johnson County leaders warn it could disenfranchise millions of voters, particularly among married voters.
