GOP super PACs withdraw funding for Rep. Tom Kean Jr
Major Republican super PACs aligned with Donald Trump and House Speaker Mike Johnson have withdrawn financial support for Representative Tom Kean Jr. in New Jersey’s 7th Congressional District. The decision to cancel remaining advertising follows internal polling suggesting Kean’s reelection chances are diminishing. This move is part of a broader Republican triage strategy to redirect funds toward more winnable races to protect a slim House majority.
Democratic challenger Rebecca Bennett has used the funding shift to argue that the Republican Party is losing confidence in Kean. Bennett reported significant grassroots support, citing over 45,000 individual donors and 1,300 volunteers. In response, the Kean campaign stated that Republicans have massively outspent Bennett thus far and they expect to reach parity on airwaves in the final weeks of the campaign.
Political observers note that the withdrawal of funds from both the Trump-aligned PACs and the Congressional Leadership Fund signals that national Republican leadership may view the seat as unwinnable, prioritizing other districts to preserve the party's map.
