GoPro CEO Nick Woodman has issued a letter to customers following the announcement of a proposed $285 million acquisition by Starman. Woodman emphasized that the company’s core DNA of making cameras remains unchanged despite the change in ownership.
The merger is intended to provide GoPro with the financial strength necessary to compete with rivals such as DJI and Insta360. Woodman stated that the deal puts the company in a better position to innovate in hardware, AI-assisted image processing, and cloud software integration.
Additionally, the deal announcement noted that GoPro will work with Starman to address certain areas of national security related to optics, cameras, and AI infrastructure. The company aims to become more diversified to ensure long-term financial stability and continued development of content creation technologies.
