Gor Mahia thrashes APR 5-0 in Kigali as Kagame Cup heats up

Kenyan champions Gor Mahia defeated Rwandan giants APR 5-0 at the Amahoro Stadium in Kigali during the CECAFA Kagame Cup 2026. Michael Kibwage opened the scoring, followed by Patrick Esombe, Paul Okoth, Lesly Otieno and a fifth goal after an error by APR goalkeeper Hernan Siluane. The win serves as a strong warning to rivals as Gor Mahia eye the tournament title; they will meet Ugandan champions Vipers SC in their next group match.

In the same opening round, Uganda’s Vipers SC beat Djibouti’s Garde Republicaine FC 3-0, with a brace from Farouk Miya and a third from Abdu Karim Watambala. The tournament features 12 clubs from the East and Central African region and runs from 24 July to 7 August in Kigali.
