Goražde faces extreme air pollution from landfill fire
Goražde is experiencing extreme air pollution due to an ongoing fire at the Šišeta illegal landfill. The fire, which began on September 30 following an explosion, continues to emit harmful substances as deep-seated hotspots remain active.
Automated monitoring stations have recorded high pollution levels, with the air quality index reaching 244. Public health officials have issued urgent warnings, advising citizens to stay indoors, keep windows closed during peak smoke periods, and avoid physical activity outside.
For those who must go outdoors, the use of N95 or FFP2 protective masks is recommended. Special caution is advised for children, the elderly, pregnant women, and individuals with respiratory or cardiovascular conditions. The situation is reportedly most severe during the morning and evening hours.
