Goražde police officer Aldin Smajović dies after cancer battle

Aldin Smajović, a 37-year-old police officer from the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Bosnia-Podrinje Canton, has passed away following a nearly two-year battle with cancer. Smajović, who was born in Foča and graduated from the University of Sarajevo Faculty of Law, had served in the police force since 2016, primarily at the Goražde Police Station.

During his illness, community members organized humanitarian actions to support his medical treatments, which included therapy in Turkey. His funeral services were held in Goražde, with ceremonies including a memorial at the Goražde Culture Center and a funeral prayer at the Kosače cemetery.

Colleagues and officials, including Minister of Internal Affairs Edin Vranj and Commissioner Damir Bogunić, honored his memory, describing him as a professional, courageous, and dedicated officer who was highly respected by his community.
