Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova attends Vevčani's 30th anniversary ceremony

North Macedonian President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova attended a ceremonial academy marking the 30th anniversary of the Municipality of Vevčani. During her speech, she expressed her deep connection to the region, metaphorically stating she possesses "dual citizenship"—Macedonian and Vevčani—and noted that she still keeps her Vevčani passport.

Siljanovska-Davkova described Vevčani as a symbol of the Republic, characterized by its unique spirit, tradition, and history. She recalled her long-standing support for the municipality's autonomy during the 1990s, noting her involvement as a member of the Vevčani Academy of Fine Arts.

The President also referenced the historic Vevčani events of August 1987, when local residents resisted the seizure of water from the Vevčani Springs. The subsequent police intervention became a symbol of civil resistance during the final years of Yugoslav socialism. She emphasized the importance of preserving the area's values of rebellion, resistance, and self-respect.
