Gorden Kaye, ‘’Allo ’Allo!’ star, passes away
Gorden Kaye, the actor best known for his role as the charming yet nervous René Artois in the popular British series ‘’Allo ’Allo!’, has passed away. Born in Huddersfield in 1941, Kaye came from a working-class background.
Before finding fame in television, Kaye worked in various industries, including textile factories, tractor plants, and wineries. He began his career in radio, where he interviewed notable musicians such as the Beatles. His transition to acting began with radio drama and stage performances at the Octagon Theatre in Bolton, following advice from director Alan Ayckbourn.
Kaye's professional name was the result of a clerical error; when applying to the actors' union Equity, his name was misspelled as ‘Gorden’ instead of ‘Gordon’. He chose to adopt this spelling as his stage name. His television career included roles in the BBC series ‘Champion House’ and the soap opera ‘Coronation Street’.
