Gordon Brown predicts inevitable unification of Ireland

Former British Prime Minister Gordon Brown has stated that the unification of Ireland is inevitable in the long term. In an interview with The Guardian, Brown noted that such a transition would be a “long process” requiring mutual consent and a fundamental agreement between the people involved.

Brown, who served as Chancellor of the Exchequer during the signing of the Good Friday Agreement and later as Prime Minister, distinguished the political position of Northern Ireland from that of Scotland. Regarding Scottish independence, he argued against it, suggesting that Scotland should find ways to live in cooperation with other nations. He emphasized that Scotland remains geographically, economically, socially, and culturally connected to the rest of the United Kingdom, including England, Wales, and parts of Ireland.
