Gordon Brown urges FIFA ticket price inquiry ahead of Scotland‑Brazil match

Former UK prime minister Gordon Brown has called for an inquiry into FIFA’s World Cup ticket pricing, describing the costs as “extortionate” and saying ordinary fans are being “priced out” of the game. He noted that tickets for the final are about 30 to 40 times higher than those for the Euro final in Germany and criticized transport fares in Boston, where trains have cost fans up to $80.

Brown argued that the money generated by FIFA should flow to grassroots football, stating, “Too much money is held by FIFA, not enough is getting to the ordinary game down at the grassroots.” He expressed optimism about Scotland’s chances against five‑time champions Brazil, predicting that John McGinn or Scott McTominay might score. He also praised the conduct of the Tartan Army in Boston, highlighting their enthusiastic support and clean‑up efforts after matches.

The comments came ahead of Scotland’s group‑stage match against Brazil at the World Cup in Boston, USA.
