Gordon Parks photography exhibition opens in New York City
A new exhibition at the Jack Shainman Gallery in New York City revisits the work of renowned photographer Gordon Parks. The display features many of his most significant images, including those captured during the civil rights era and his photo essays for LIFE Magazine.
Two decades after his death in 2006, the exhibition provides new context by pairing iconic photographs with anecdotes from living subjects and the families of those who have passed. Notable works include a 1970 portrait of Black Panther Party leader Eldridge Cleaver and his wife, Kathleen. Kathleen Cleaver, who became a law professor, provided commentary on the historic nature of the photograph.
