Gorj investigation follows fatal incident and labor violations in Berlești

A 40-year-old man, Nicolae Gorun, died on Saturday during the Berlești commune days in Gorj County, Romania. Authorities are investigating whether the death was caused by electrocution after the man reportedly touched a wire loop on a refrigeration unit, leading to cardio-respiratory arrest. While police are investigating the incident as negligent homicide, the company administrator stated the deceased was not an employee and suggested he may have suffered a medical emergency related to epilepsy and a pre-infarction.

Following the incident, inspectors from the Gorj Territorial Labor Inspectorate (ITM) conducted an unannounced inspection at the site. During the check at Terasa Lidia, inspectors discovered three individuals working without legal employment contracts. The company faces significant fines, with initial penalties starting at 120,000 lei and potentially reaching nearly 200,000 lei due to various deficiencies found during the inspection.
