Romania conducts widespread law enforcement and border operations

Romania is seeing a surge in law enforcement activities across various sectors. The National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) has launched large-scale searches in nine counties, including Cluj and Satu Mare, targeting suspected corruption involving border police and customs officials at the Halmeu border crossing.

In terms of border infrastructure, a new international border crossing point and bridge between Sighetu Marmației and Bila Țerkva, Ukraine, is set to become operational on October 8. This project, supported by EU funds, aims to facilitate the movement of people and goods.

Security and traffic enforcement have also been active. In a single week, authorities identified nearly 600 individuals flagged in the Schengen Information System (SIS), including 480 within Romania. Additionally, nationwide police checks resulted in over 500 drivers losing their licenses in 24 hours due to speeding and alcohol violations. Border police also conducted joint operations with Hungarian authorities near the Satu Mare border to combat illegal migration and smuggling.
