Gorontalo authorities urge adherence to mining regulations

Authorities in Gorontalo are emphasizing the necessity of adhering to legal regulations regarding mining activities. Governor Gusnar Ismail stated that all mining-related issues must be resolved according to existing laws and the specific authorities of each institution. He noted that the authority to issue Mining Business Licenses (IUP) now rests with the central government, meaning the provincial government cannot intervene in the licensing process.

In response to public concerns, the Governor has requested a detailed inventory of community grievances to help map problems and find appropriate solutions. Specific attention has been given to the activities of PT Celebes Bone Mineral and PT Bumi Nusantara Perkasa Gorontalo (BNPG) in Bone Bolango Regency.

Simultaneously, the Gorontalo Regional Police (Polda Gorontalo) are urging illegal gold miners to transition to legal operations by obtaining People's Mining Permits (IPR). Officials noted that legal permits ensure accountability regarding law, occupational safety, and environmental preservation. The Head of the Gorontalo Energy and Mineral Resources Service also warned that IPRs must not be used to facilitate illegal mining activities and stressed the importance of transparency in mineral management.
