Gorontalo and Magetan governments launch subsidized food markets
Local governments in Gorontalo and Magetan are implementing subsidized food markets to combat rising costs and maintain economic stability amid dry season impacts and inflation concerns.
In Gorontalo, the provincial government held a subsidized market at Lapangan Taruna Remaja, providing 2,500 packages of essential goods. These packages, which include rice, oil, sugar, eggs, chili, shallots, and chicken, were sold for 95,000 IDR, a significant reduction from the market value of approximately 271,000 IDR. Governor Gusnar Ismail stated the intervention aims to prevent unnatural price hikes and ensure food security.
Similarly, the Magetan Regency government organized subsidized markets in areas such as Karas to support community purchasing power. The program utilized a coupon system to distribute commodities like rice, cooking oil, sugar, eggs, and various meats at prices lower than market rates. Officials noted that these initiatives are part of broader efforts to manage regional inflation and ease the economic burden on residents.
