Gorontalo faces rising inflation and seasonal weather shifts
Gorontalo is facing simultaneous economic and meteorological shifts. According to the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), the province recorded an annual inflation rate of 5.46 percent as of September 2026. This increase was primarily driven by rising food prices, specifically a surge in the cost of cayenne pepper. Within the province, Gorontalo Regency saw the highest inflation at 6.28 percent, while Gorontalo City recorded 4.48 percent.
In addition to economic pressures, the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has signaled a transition from the dry season to the rainy season for the 2026/2027 period. The rainy season is expected to begin gradually between mid-November and mid-December 2026, starting in eastern regions before moving west. Governor Gusnar Ismail has been urged to prioritize early mitigation and preparedness to manage the upcoming weather changes.
