Gorontalo targets November 2026 for mining area legalities
The Gorontalo Provincial Government is working to secure legal certainty for local mining activities. Governor Gusnar Ismail met with the Director General of Mineral and Coal at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources to discuss the development of People's Mining Areas (WPR) in the region.
Officials are targeting the issuance of a Ministerial Decree for 14 specific WPR blocks by November 2026. These blocks are located across Bone Bolango, Gorontalo, and North Gorontalo regencies. This decision is a prerequisite for residents to obtain People's Mining Permits (IPR), which will allow for legal mining operations.
Currently, there are 97 WPR blocks identified throughout the Gorontalo Province under existing regulations, and the provincial government is conducting evaluations to ensure these areas are managed effectively.
