Gospel music pioneer Sara Araújo dies at 80
Sara Araújo, a pioneer of Brazilian gospel music, has passed away at the age of 80 in Goiânia. Her death was confirmed by her adoptive daughter, harpist Aline Araújo, though the specific cause of death has not been released by the family.
Throughout her career, Araújo recorded 40 albums and dedicated 65 years to the Assembly of God Church. Beyond her musical contributions as a singer, composer, and musician, she was a missionary and philanthropist. She founded the Creche Comunitária Esperança in Uberlândia, Minas Gerais, an institution that continues to provide assistance to 100 vulnerable children.
Colleagues and fans, including singer Tangela Vieira, have shared tributes honoring her legacy and the profound impact she had on sacred music in Brazil. Araújo was laid to rest on Sunday at the Vale do Cerrado Cemetery in Goiânia.
