Gospel of Luke: Jesus selects the twelve apostles after prayer
According to the Gospel of Luke (6:12-19), Jesus spent an entire night in prayer on a mountain before calling his disciples and choosing twelve to be named apostles. The chosen group included Simon (Peter), Andrew, James, John, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James son of Alphaeus, Simon the Zealot, Jude son of James, and Judas Iscariot.
Following this selection, Jesus descended to a level place where large crowds from Judea, Jerusalem, Tyre, and Sidon had gathered. The text notes that many sought to touch him for healing, as a power emerged from him that cured all the people, including those tormented by impure spirits.
