Gospel of Matthew teachings on unlimited forgiveness

The Gospel of Matthew (18:21-35) details a teaching by Jesus regarding the necessity of unlimited forgiveness. When Peter asks if forgiving a brother seven times is sufficient, Jesus responds that one must forgive “seventy-seven times” (or “seventy times seven”), suggesting that forgiveness should not be calculated or limited.

To illustrate this, a parable is shared about a king settling debts. A servant who owed an unpayable amount of ten thousand talents was shown mercy and had his debt forgiven. However, that same servant then refused to show mercy to a fellow servant who owed him a much smaller amount, leading to the king's anger and the subsequent punishment of the unmerciful servant.
