Gospić landfill receives protective geomembrane layer

Work is underway in Gospić to install a protective layer over waste at the former PPK Velebit site. The contractor, Kostak-graditeljstvo tehnologija sirovine, is placing an impermeable geomembrane on the edges of the landfill.

The primary objective of this phase is to prevent groundwater from penetrating the waste body and to allow for the controlled drainage of rainwater. The process involves shaping the terrain, excavating anchor and perimeter channels, and welding membrane segments together to create a continuous, waterproof surface. Once the membrane is secured in the anchor channels, they will be backfilled to ensure stability against weather conditions.
